To be eligible, the child must be between 0 and 17 years old for at least one day of the calendar year, they are eligible for Medicare, and they or their family must have received an Australian government payment at least once in that calendar year.
In addition, the schedule is flexible, and services can be provided by any participating dental provider. As a result, the Child Dental Benefits Schedule is an essential program for ensuring that children have access to quality dental care.
How CHILD DENTAL BENEFITS SCHEDULE Works
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule has proved to be a success in terms of improved oral health in children. Before the CDBS was established, some families were unable to provide their children with proper dental care.
The CDBS provides subsidised dental services to qualified children. Families who could not previously afford dental care are now able to take their children for regular check-ups and treatment, leading to better overall oral health for children across the board.
Flexible usage of benefits
If necessary, a patient may use up their entire benefit cap of $1,000 during the two-year coverage period. The balance of benefits could be used by a child who is still eligible the following year if they did not use it in the first year.
Wide range of covered services
Dental services are partially or fully covered by the CDBS. There will be cleanings, x-rays, fillings, extractions, and more included. You should first determine whether your dentist’s recommended treatment is covered by your CDBS prior to setting your appointment.
Few coverage limitations
The CDBS does not cover all dental services, such as orthodontic braces, cosmetic dentistry, or dental treatments provided by a hospital.
Public and private dental care
Dental treatments will be bulk-billed at public dental clinics. No out-of-pocket expenses will be incurred by patients. Prior to seeking private dental treatment, determine what CDBS will cover because the cost of private care may vary significantly.
